Nominations Sought for 2016 Friends of Iowa Civil Rights Awards

Honorees to be recognized at 21st Annual Iowa Civil Rights Awards Luncheon held in conjunction with the 2016 Iowa Mosaic Diversity Conference on July 21, 2016

Des Moines, IA – April 21, 2016 — Friends of Iowa Civil Rights is seeking nominations for the 2016 Annual Friends of Iowa Civil Rights Awards.  Download the forms at contact Dawn Peterson at info@iowafriends.org. Nomination forms must be postmarked by Tuesday, May 31, 2016.

Awards are given to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions in promoting civil rights in Iowa over the past five years in each of the following categories: individual, business, non-profit/community organizations, and youth/young adult. Previous award recipients include former The World Food Prize Foundation, Des Moines University, Iowa Legal Aid, U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, Judith Morrell, Davis Brown Law Firm, The African American Museum of Iowa, Chrysalis, The Iowa Pride Network, and many more.

Nominations are encouraged for those how have fought against hate crimes or sexual harassment, discrimination in education/housing/employment, age, disability, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, or race and national origin discrimination. Nominees will be selected on merit, not endorsement.

Award recipients will be recognized during the 21st Annual Iowa Civil Rights Awards Luncheon held as part of the 2016 Iowa Mosaic Diversity Conference on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the Meadows Events and Conference Center in Altoona, IA.

Friends of Iowa Civil Rights, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization established to educate individuals and groups on civil rights, assist civil rights efforts statewide, and recognize individuals and groups who have championed the cause of civil rights.
