Friends Awards

The Friends of Iowa Civil Rights Awards are presented annually in four different categories based on a significant contribution in promoting civil rights in Iowa during the past year. Honorees fought against hate crimes or sexual harassment; discrimination in education, housing or employment; and age, disability, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, or race and national origin discrimination. Nominees are selected on merit, not endorsement.

Individuals

Those who have led the way to a better life for Iowans by making an impact in one or more areas of civil rights, whether an educator, volunteer, board member, business leader, or community activist, etc. Individuals will be selected based upon their efforts to ensure equal rights beyond the scope of their employment.

Businesses
